Trying my new Canon 55-250mm

I bought a cheap Canon 55-250, that´s all I can afford right now. Reviews weren´t so bad considering the low price. So I´m giving it a try, hope a don´t regret it. Anyway, this is all I can pay for at the moment, so it would be a little ungrateful to complain.

We all know there´s no need for a fancy and expensive equipment to be a good photographer. So here I go!

Thank you universe for letting me get, finally, a telephoto zoom!

Weekly Photo Challenge: My 2012 in Pictures

Well, as usual, lots of things happened this year, we finally settled down in our new home, after almost two years of roaming. I learnt to cook new recipes. I also learnt that I can be a kindergarten teacher if necessary. I did a lot of crafts for the house. I grew my own lettuce. The winter, after there months of ice, fortunately ended! and the warm wind of the summer is blowing.

I tried doing bokeh!

I love the sun in the house during winter mornings…

WPC: Reflections

Last week I posted a picture of a reflection for the Liquid Travel Theme. I´ll post it again (because I like it so much), but there´re two new reflections for you.

f/4.5 – 1/160 sec – ISO 125 – 16mm (P&S)
f/8 – 1/250 sec – ISO 100 – 70mm
f/8 – 1/250 sec – ISO 100 – 23mm

WPC: Big

We´ve got something big around here. It´s our beautiful glacier! Perito Moreno Glacier is about 80km from where I live, and it´s the main attraction of this tourist point. Why? because is one of the few (if not only) glaciers that can be visited without having to take a boat, or hike for hours, or do anything  physically demanding. You just get to the parking lot and there it is, and if you fell adventurous, you just take the stairs and walk the 5km of paths to get different views. It is also the only glacier in the National Park (which has more than 300 of these) that is not shrinking, which is good news now a day!

But the real show takes place every couple of years (some say it is every four years, but nature has its own clock). It is when the glacier reaches the peninsula and blocks the water flow from the left arm to the one you see on the right, which leads to the main body of the Argentino Lake. A huge mass of ice is accumulated there and the water from the left pushes for a couple of months, until one day it makes its way through and starts leaking to the right side. That´s when the expectation begins, now the water erodes the ice making a beautiful ¨bridge¨ and everybody waits to see the big rupture.

I almost forget about the big thing here, it is 250 km².

Sorry, no info, it´s a photo stitch!

I took the panoramic picture above last month. The picture below was taken on January, when the ice was reaching the peninsula.

Travel Theme: Foliage

If there´s a place in the world I found amazing and exuberant foliage, it is Malaysia, more specifically Borneo.  The size of the leaves are spectacular! some leaves I saw there were the same I remember from the trees of my childhood, but huge!

Travel Theme: Texture

1,2,3, updating. Here´s last week´s theme.

This is some kind of moss that grows on the rocks when the air is very pure.

f/8 – 1/500 sec – ISO 100 – 70mm

And this is what happens when I get bored. This is my hand under the helmet net of my backpack.
