Sky

We bought a car, and are learning to drive. During our learning sessions I took this pics, this were also taken with my mobile. I´m sorry, I feel like I´m betraying my real camera, I´ll get it on board next time.

WPC: Big

We´ve got something big around here. It´s our beautiful glacier! Perito Moreno Glacier is about 80km from where I live, and it´s the main attraction of this tourist point. Why? because is one of the few (if not only) glaciers that can be visited without having to take a boat, or hike for hours, or do anything  physically demanding. You just get to the parking lot and there it is, and if you fell adventurous, you just take the stairs and walk the 5km of paths to get different views. It is also the only glacier in the National Park (which has more than 300 of these) that is not shrinking, which is good news now a day!

But the real show takes place every couple of years (some say it is every four years, but nature has its own clock). It is when the glacier reaches the peninsula and blocks the water flow from the left arm to the one you see on the right, which leads to the main body of the Argentino Lake. A huge mass of ice is accumulated there and the water from the left pushes for a couple of months, until one day it makes its way through and starts leaking to the right side. That´s when the expectation begins, now the water erodes the ice making a beautiful ¨bridge¨ and everybody waits to see the big rupture.

I almost forget about the big thing here, it is 250 km².

Sorry, no info, it´s a photo stitch!

I took the panoramic picture above last month. The picture below was taken on January, when the ice was reaching the peninsula.

What can I do for 7 hours in a train station?

Take photos! And that´s what I did in Ipoh, Malaysia, when we arrived at 5 pm and the guy at the counter said that the train left at midnight. Of course we could go for a walk, but the station was quite far from downtown and we travel on a shoestring, so no cabs for us. We decided to wait there. Malaysia is a very organized country and part of that order includes no lying down on the benches, so… wait the 7 hours sitting down properly! These are the pics I took during those hours, they were taken in black and white mode, and the few in colour are becuase I felt it that way at the moment.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Movement

For this week´s challenge I choose a glacier, Perito Moreno Glacier, which is the natural attraction of the place I live. It looks like a still mass of ice, but in fact, it moves all the time but we can´t notice. We only notice when it looses a part of itself, that´s the movement we get to see, and here are the pictures!

Winter is here!

On 21 June it snowed a lot, so on Friday I took some shots. This was quite a big snowfall for us (but I warn you, this is not Canada!)

This is the view from the kitchen´s little window.

Patagonian landscape

Today I went to the capital city of the province I live in. The trip takes about four hours (depending on how icy the road is), so I packed my camera with a 50mm lens, it´s lighter and less bulky to travel. I couldn´t take any pics in the city itself, but don´t worry, you´re not missing a thing, everybody I know agrees that is the most flat, cold, windy, dark and awful city we´ve ever seen.

So I took some shots at the bus station´s waiting room and on the way back, as it way daytime.
